🛒 Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup (150g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ripe banana, well mashed
  • ½ cup soft dates, finely chopped or blended
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1¼ cups plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt

Optional:

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

For Filling:

🍪 Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 170°C and line a tray with baking paper.

Step 2

In a bowl, cream together:

  • ⅔ cup softened butter
  • Mashed banana
  • Finely chopped dates

Beat until smooth and creamy. It won’t look fluffy like sugar cookies — that’s normal.

Step 3

Add:

  • 1 egg
  • Vanilla
  • Mix until fully combined.

Step 4

Add:

  • 1¼ cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • Salt (and cinnamon if using)

Mix until a soft dough forms.

If slightly sticky, chill for 10–15 minutes.

Step 5 – Shape

Roll into tablespoon-sized balls.
Place on tray.

Press a small indent into the centre of each.

Fill with ½ teaspoon chocolate bean spread.

Step 6

Bake for 9–11 minutes only.

Edges should be lightly golden but centres still soft.

They will continue setting as they cool — don’t overbake.

Cool on tray 5 minutes before transferring.

🧡 Real Mum Notes

Healthy baking often tastes like sacrifice.

These don’t.

They’re soft.
They’re gently sweet.
And the little chocolate centre makes them feel intentional.

Which is exactly what we’re aiming for.
