🛒 Ingredients
- 300–400g pasta (penne, spirals, shells — whatever’s in the cupboard)
- 1–2 cans tuna, drained
- 1 cup frozen peas or corn
- ¾–1 cup thickened cream (or ½ cup milk + 1 tbsp butter or mayonnaise)
- ½ cup grated cheese
- 1 clove garlic (optional)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
Optional Add-Ins:
- Squeeze of lemon
- Handful baby spinach
- 1 tbsp cream cheese for extra richness
🍳 Method
Step 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil and cook 300–400g pasta according to packet instructions.
Add frozen peas or corn into the pasta water for the final 2 minutes of cooking.
Drain and set aside.
Step 2
In the same pot (because we’re not creating extra dishes), heat 1 tbsp olive oil or butter over medium heat.
Add garlic if using and cook 30 seconds.
Step 3
Add:
- Drained tuna
- Cream (or milk + butter combo)
- Salt & pepper
Stir gently.
Step 4
Return pasta and peas to the pot.
Stir through grated cheese until melted and creamy.
Add a splash of pasta water if needed to loosen.
Serve immediately.

🧡 Real Mum Notes
Tuna pasta has a reputation.
But when it’s creamy, cheesy and properly seasoned — it works.
It’s not fancy.
It’s not trending.
It’s practical.
And practical wins on weeknights.
